End of Year Mass and Annual Barbecue

On Wednesday 17th July, we assembled for our annual Whole School Mass of Thanksgiving. It is an opportunity for everyone to reflect on and give thanks for everything which has happened in the school year. We were delighted to have our Priest Chaplain, Fr Stephen Talbutt, with us to celebrate Mass, and he did so in his usual wonderful and engaging manner. His Homily told us to reflect carefully on what we have achieved but also learn from any mistakes we may have made, and resolve to move forward positively. This was a bittersweet occasion as it was Fr Stephen’s final Mass with us, as he moves to a new parish in Fleetwood. We thank him for his commitment to and enthusiasm for the school. He will certainly be missed.

The singing was probably the best we have ever heard in a school Mass, with hymns being sung with enthusiasm and volume. We are particularly grateful to all those who read and sang in the choir, as well as those pupils who served on the altar.

After Mass, we had our traditional annual barbecue. Pupils and Staff had the choice of a variety of meat, vegetarian or vegan food items as well as a drink and ice-cream or lolly ice. Many took advantage of the glorious weather to profit from an extended lunchtime in the garden. Mr Addison-Jones and Mr Hill were the DJ’s for the event, with pupils particularly enjoyed the chance to show their moves to the ‘Cha-Cha Slide’ or sing along to ‘Sweet Caroline.’ Thank you to our catering team for providing such a wonderful lunch for staff and pupils alike.

On the whole, this was an enjoyable day of celebration for the entire school community as we move towards the end of the school year.
