Easter Liturgies

All pupils attended our Easter Liturgies this week, led by Headteacher Mr Hubbard, to celebrate Easter; Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross that transformed the appalling brutality of his crucifixion into a symbol of triumph.

Senior pupils participated in the liturgies with Head Boy Charlie Shorrock traditionally carrying a lit Paschal candle forward slowly to the front of the hall, Deputy Head Girls Georgia Walkden-Fenerty and Lucky Simpkin removed the crown of thorns that denoted sin, sorrow and hardship and replaced the purple cloth representing the sorrow and suffering from Jesus with the white cloth representing the celebration of Christ’s resurrection throughout all services. The Head of Year presented an introduction to the Gospel from St Luke which was read by Deputy Head Boy Adam Newton which was followed by a reflective reading by Head Girl Heli Bhakta. Videos explaining the events of Easter accompanied all readings and further intercessions were led by all our senior prefects.

After a final prayer by Mr Hubbard to celebrate the feast of Jesus’ resurrection, all liturgies concluded with everyone making the sign of the cross and leaving the hall in silence listening to reflective music.

The liturgies provided an excellent opportunity for all staff and pupils to reflect on the events of Easter and all pupils must be complimented for their excellent behaviour and respectful participation in all liturgies.
