School Mock General Election

On Thursday 4th July, as the nation went to the polls to vote in the general election, Corpus Christi pupils took part in a mock election to mirror the real thing. Over the course of the last week, pupils have explored each party’s manifesto pledges on a range of issues including the economy, immigration, the NHS, education and the environment. After a brief rundown of the salient points, pupils discussed the issues and their own opinions before deciding which party they agreed with the most.

On the day, pupils were brought down to the hall to cast their vote in the school polling station. As the ballot box filled up, it was clear how much pupils had engaged with the issues and how knowledgeable they were about political ideas before making their own prudent choices.

As polling closed and the votes were counted, it was left to the school’s returning officer –  Mr Harwood – to announce the result on Friday morning.

We hereby declare that in the Corpus Christi Catholic High School constituency, with 37% of the vote, the Labour party have been duly elected to represent our school at Westminster.
